The New You: Welcome to Your Changed Life

by N. J. Lindquist & Mark Lindquist

Week 1: Day 1  You Really Are a New Person

It’s hard to believe, but I (Mark) was once a tiny six-and-a-half-pound, 21-inch-long baby.

Now I’m six feet two inches tall, wear size 15 shoes, and weigh considerably more than six pounds!

No matter how big you are now, you were once a tiny baby, too.

Why are we talking about babies?

In John 3:3, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, unless one is born again, he cannot be in God’s kingdom.”

By giving your life to Jesus Christ, you have been born again as a spiritual baby. Just as you needed good care and time for you to grow up physically, so you also need good care and time to grow up spiritually.

Welcome to your new life

Physical babies are normally born after a nine-month “getting ready” period. How long did it take for you to be born spiritually? ____________________________________________________________________________________

God is now your spiritual parent.  However, other people were probably involved in helping you give your life to God. Who are a few of these people?

What were the main reasons for your decision to give your life to Christ?

You’re calling me a baby?

It’s probable that no one would know to look at you that something tremendous has happened. You may not feel any different either.

But you are different. From now on, you are God’s beloved child.

Can you think of any ways you have changed?

Response

Giving your life to God means a great deal more than going to be with him up in heaven when you die. Your new life actually began the very same moment that you gave your life to God.

For one thing, you can now talk to God any time, any where, and about anything—and he will talk to you, too.

Try it right now. Tell him how you feel. Let him know what your questions and concerns are.

The space below is for you to use to write down any thoughts, questions, or ideas that occur to you. Then you will have them handy when you and your discipler get together.
