Who
are you?
We
are N. J. Lindquist and Les
D. Lindquist, a husband and wife business partnership.
What
do you publish?
To
date, our published books include contemporary coming-of-age novels
for ages 12 and up, adult mysteries, and a compilation of Canadian authors
coming in May called Hot Apple
Cider.
Our
books for ages 12 and up that help readers deal with the longings they
have for acceptance, significance, and identity. These novels have seventeen-eighteen
year-old boys as the point-of-view characters, so guys will read them
as well as girls. Adults even read and enjoy them.
We
also work with a publisher in the United States, High Impact Ministries,
to make N. J. 's discipleship manuals available in Canada.
And
we publish classic mystery novels under the imprint MurderWillOut
Mysteries
Are
you a self-publisher?
Yes
and no. If you mean, did we go to a vanity publisher to get N. J.'s
books printed because she can't get published anywhere else, the answer
is "No."
If
you mean, after doing due diligence, did we form an independent publishing
company so we could control what happened with N. J's books, the answer
is "Yes."
N.
J. had had five books published by three different American publishers
prior to our forming That's Life! Communications, so we knew what was
involved. And we knew that in most cases, the author is expected to
do a good deal of the promotion these days. After considering all aspects,
we decided that if we were going to not only write the book but also
promote it, we may as well publish it too. So we hired people to do
the editing and printing and other necessities, and formed our own publishing
company. Every company in existence today had to start somewhere.
Do
You publish other people's work?
We
are just in the process of publishing a compilation book with the work
of 30 Canadian authors. If it is successful, we will consider publishing
other books by other authors. That has always been our goal. But first,
we need to feel that we have all the pieces working.
